HOW TO ADOPT
“Until
one has loved an animal, part of one’s soul remains
unawakened.”

Most of our Animals available for adoption are orphans we have
saved from area animal-control shelters, where they were
unclaimed, unadopted and out of time and so otherwise would have
been euthanized. Our expert staff strives to take only those
animals with friendly, well-socialized temperaments, with no signs
of aggression, that just need extra time or perhaps some medical
treatment to be adopted.
Come visit most of our dogs and cats at our Adoption Center, 1955
N. Redwood Road. They will be waiting with wags and purrs,
kisses, and lots of hope for new forever families. Our
adoptable horses are located far and wide, living in carefully
approved foster homes, so call our office to arrange to see our
horses.
We can accept animals released to us by their owners under
circumstances that qualify under our charter. Our adoption
coordinator makes those decisions on a case-by-case basis. We do
not accept "stray" pets under any circumstances. Such animals must
be taken to an animal control facility where they have the best
chance of being re-united with their owners.
Our adoptable animals are advertised on the web via the
Petfinder
database. Please visit our adoptable animals Tuesday through
Saturday at our Adoption Center. We also show animals for adoption
at Layton Petsmart on some Saturdays and participate in
semi-annual super-adoptathons held in the Salt Lake area.
Once you find an animal (or two!!) that you'd like to meet or get
more information about, please call our office at 801-355-PETS or
email us.
Our goal for our rescued animals is to place them in lifetime
homes. To adopt an animal you will be asked to complete this
application
request form. Knowing as much as possible about your
situation, routine, experiences, and home setting will help us
recommend just the right animal for your family, and thus help set
the adoption up for success.
Please plan on spending some time to get to know your prospective
new family member and then another 45 minutes to complete all
necessary paperwork.
Adoption fees are $90 for large and adult dogs; $120 for puppies
and small dogs; $65.00 for cats and kittens. Fees include
spaying, neutering, all vaccinations, deworming, and an
identification microchip. These fees help offset the costs
incurred by our charity to shelter, feed, and provide routine and
emergency care for the animals in our care.
We recommend that you purchase all the necessary food and water
dishes, leashes, food, toys, etc, prior to bringing your furry
friend home. You might want to invest in a book or two about how
to help your new family member settle in and we definitely
recommend you take your new dog to obedience school, even if you
feel both you and the dog are "old hands" at training... there is
always something new to learn, and your dog will bond with you
better through organized training.
Our professional, knowledgeable staff and friendly volunteers will
help the adoption go as smoothly as possible, and are available
for post-placement help and consults. We hope the information on
this page has been useful as you search for your new furry family
member!
